LIHUE — County officials have issued another notice about the importance of residents using their refuse carts properly.
“The problems with the improper use of refuse carts have escalated to a point where it’s having a major impact on our automated trash collection service,” said County Engineer Larry Dill. “We can no longer pick up the trash for those who are not compliant with the rules.”
He noted that some of the biggest issues are carts overflowing with trash and carts being placed too close together or near obstructions.
There are even reports of residents placing trash in their neighbor’s refuse carts at night without their neighbor’s permission.
There are about 18,500 refuse carts in use on the island. Info: 241-4841
