The Roden family, including Matt, Megan and Anna, from Michigan were totally having fun doing selfies and photos with the backdrop of wind-driven surf along the east-facing shorelines of Kauai.
Stew and Esther Portelo of Firth, Idaho, discovered the Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery while driving by and seeing the sign. They were further impressed when they got to be photographed with Monty Nishiie, a 100-year-old 100th Infantry Battalion veteran who was at the 70th Memorial Service Sunday.
Kudos to Ken Morikawa and all the West Kauai Club 100 members who put the service together!
And kudos to Maj. Victor Aguilar and the Waimea High School JrROTC for its services with the color guard, saber unit, buglers, and the special rifle drill by cadets James Caudill and Jamin Yadao. Ross Shimabukuro was impressed.
Mike Ishibashi (Major Aguilar said he was a former XO for the Waimea unit) came over from Honolulu to spend the weekend with family and participate in the service.
