LIHUE –Police, firefighters, and personnel from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources are searching for a missing Kapaa man and are asking for the public’s assistance.
Emir Castillo, 56, was last seen at his daughter’s Kapaa home on Saturday, when he relayed that he was interested in exploring an underwater cave near Kaakaaniu Beach, also known as Larsen’s Beach, in Kilauea.
Castillo was reported missing to police on Monday, after Castillo’s employer notified a family member that he did not report to work as scheduled.
Police and firefighters from the Hanalei station worked with DLNR to conduct a ground search of Kaakaaniu Beach and the surrounding area, while Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 conducted an aerial search of the shoreline.
Castillo was not located Monday, but his car was located at the beach parking lot and some of his personal belongings were recovered from the shoreline.
Police do not suspect foul play in Castillo’s disappearance. A multi-agency search resumes today.
Anyone with information on Castillo’s possible whereabouts is urged to call Kauai police at 241-1711 or Detective Chris Jenkins at 241-1680. Anonymous tipsters may call CrimeStoppers at 246-8300.
