LIHUE — Kauai yogis will have an opportunity Saturday to participate in a global yoga practice for charity.
More than 100 yoga studios worldwide are set to join for a Baptiste yoga practice geared at raising a half million dollars for the Baptiste Foundation as well as local charities.
The event, which has attracted participants from countries including England, South Africa and Afghanistan, is the first of its kind.
Kauai Power Yoga in Kapaa will host one of those 100 yoga classes from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday at the Kapaa High School gymnasium. The $20 class ($10 for youth ages 10 and up) will benefit the Kapaa High School Athletic Department in addition to the Baptiste Foundation. Pre-registration in the studio or online at kauaipoweryoga.com is recommended.
“Myself and Kauai Power Yoga studio, we’re really about being of service and empowering not only our own lives but lives in the local and global community as well,” said Jessica Stein, owner of Kauai Power Yoga and a certified Baptiste yoga teacher. “So this event is sort of bringing that all together.”
The Baptiste Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to helping people and communities in need by sharing the powerful tools and techniques of Baptiste Yoga. The foundation uses yoga and educational programs to inspire and empower people from all walks of life.
Stein said she doesn’t know how many participants will be there Saturday, but she’s hoping to bring together 50 to 100 yogis for the charity practice.
In its commitment to give back to the island, Stein said the 1-year-old yoga studio offers $5 community donation classes at 5:30 p.m. every Friday. At the end of each month, the studio donates a percentage of its proceeds to a local organization.
The global charity practice, which is dubbed “Bmoved,” is just another example of the studio’s commitment to transforming lives on and off the mat, Stein said.
“Our mission at Kauai Power Yoga is to create an environment and community that empowers people through consistent practice of yoga,” Stein said. “The Baptiste Foundation supports community, inspiration, possibilities in action and purposeful lives. We are so excited to team up and host this epic event here on Kauai.”
