Letters for Sept. 20, 2015
HDF has a location problem
In the real estate business, it is location that matters the most, with respect to the valuation of a piece of real property!
In the dairy business, it is again, location that matters the most, to be accepted by the nearest community affected.
Kudos to The Garden Island’s article (Sept. 17), by Ms. Brittany Lyte entitled “Dairy opponents deliver petition to Ige.” This petition was delivered in person to Gov.Ige last Friday, with some 3,300 petition signatures, by Bridget Hammerquist, president, “Friends of Mahaulepu,” while joined with Dr. Carl Berg et al.
Accompanying this petition, was extensive documentation that outlined reasons why “HDF” should not be located as proposed, at Mahaulepu. Again: location!location! location!
The history of the dairy business on Kauai over the past 100 years, has been fraught with unacceptable locations! There are no dairies in existence on Kauai at thistime.
Thus begs the question: “Should HDF’s Mahaulepu’s proposed location be realized as unacceptable now, and be relocated to an acceptable location, rather thanmoving a year from now?
One of the 3,300 signatures, and one of many former Waimea Dairy owners.
