More than 1,500 state paddlers gathered at the Queen Liliuokalani Long Distance canoe race at Kailua-Kona this past weekend.
Of the 1,500 that participated, more than 100 racers represented the clubs of the Kauai Outrigger Association.
Kauai Waa’s open men’s crew finished second in the division and third overall with a time of 2:06:41. Mark Frazier, Christian Marston, Tyrus Siale, Makana Denton, Jody Simpson and Luke Evslin were the members of the crew.
Puuwai finished eighth in the division with a time of 2:15:07, and Hanalei placed 25th with a time of 2:37:06.
NaMolokama placed first in the Men 65-plus division with a time of 2:36:02. Crew members were Tom Thompson, Jeff Ohara, Steve Landis, Jack Edgehill, Andy Reich and Arthur Chow.
Hanalei won the Koa Open Women division with a time of 2:19:54. Crew members were Lilinoe Forrest, Lahela Correa, Marj Milbrand, Jessica Fu, Nancy Williams and Sara Zeitz.
Hanalei also placed second in the Koa Open Men division with a time of 2:23:28.
Kukuiula placed fourth in the Men 40-49 division with a time of 2:23:32. NaMolokama placed second in the Men 55-59 division with a time of 2:25:46.
Niumalu placed fifth in the Open Women division with a time of 2:22:36. Hanalei placed 18th in the same division with a time of 2:34:17, and Kukuiula placed 25th with a time of 2:39:22.
Kaiola finished 8th in the Women 40+ division with a time of 2:46:25.
In the Women 50-plus division, NaMolokama finished third with a time of 2:32:33 and Hanalei finished fifth with a time of 2:37:27.
Hanalei placed third in the Nine Open Women division with a time of 2:27:47. West Kauai finished fourth in the Nine Women 40+ division with a time of 2:47:44.
