Kudos to U.S. Coast Guard’s Seth Carter and the Nawiliwili USCG station on a great multi-agency emergency exercise. Randy Ortiz of the U.S. Ocean Safety Bureau said it’s a great way to have the different agencies get to know each other better as well as be able to know what resources everyone has when responding to emergencies.
Kudos, too, to Marc Bennor, chair of the 2015 Visitor Industry Charity Walk for Kauai, his boss Denise Wardlow of the Westin Princeville (they’ve got their Jazz and Wine Festival coming up, Sept. 19), president of the Kauai board for the Hawaii Tourism and Lodging Association, on distributing funds from the May walk to 57 different Kauai nonprofits. Mark Domincil (this was his first funds distribution event) of the Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club said it’s a good feeling to see the funds go to people who work so hard and need help in a time when budgets are shrinking. Of course, mahalo to Bill Countryman of the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club for the great hospitality.
