The Garden Island learned today that the state attorney general’s office is charging Rep. James “Jimmy” Tokioka with a misdemeanor for violating campaign finance laws during the 2014 campaign.
The charge comes after a nearly year-long investigation that included the unusual step of asking the lawmaker to take a lie detector test, which he agreed to take.
As part of a plea agreement, according to the AG’s office, Tokioka will pay $1,000 to the Crime Victims Compensation Fund and apologize on his campaign Facebook page.
The Garden Island will have the full story in Wednesday’s edition.
