Renee Yanagihawa, now a swimsuit designer and student on Oahu, remembers her fourth grade and how she started by making dollar bracelets at her mother’s craft fairs.
Renee was helping her neices, Kristel, 9, and Shantelle, 7, Alayvilla (Alden Alayvilla stopped off to drop off more beads) Saturday when Debbie Yanagihawa hosted a craft fair to benefit the Kauai Veterans Museum (Norvin Olivas said people could go eat at the neighboring farm fair). Kristel and Shantelle were making bracelets, and they get to go to Princeville, Aug. 29 when Debbie hosts another fair at the Church of the Pacific.
Marcia Ishii (she started with plumeria at Edwin Vea’s craft fair at the Beach House) is working on her latest heliconia, which she hopes will be ready when the Kauai Society of Artists opens its Art Kauai 2015 on Sept. 18 at the Kukui Grove gallery.
Ricky Yutuc of Lemurian harmonic frequency (Ricky made a didegeridoo using an agave he found on Kauai) was taking with Ron Steiner of Spirit of the Heart to get some Native American items worked into his flutes, some of which are enhanced through the use of crystals.
