KOLOA — An 83-year-old woman who was initially transported to Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu earlier this month following a car accident near the Tunnel of Trees has died.
Police have identified her as Juana Domingo of Kekaha, Kauai police said Monday.
The driver of the Toyota truck that struck Domingo’s vehicle was subsequently arrested for second-degree negligent homicide.
Kevin Perry, 39, of Koloa was released pending investigation, as is standard in traffic-related fatalities. He has not been formally charged.
The accident occurred around 5:45 p.m. Aug. 7.
According to a preliminary investigation, Perry turned left from Kaumualii Highway onto Maluhia Road, when he crossed the center line of Maluhia Road and struck an oncoming Honda sedan.
The male driver of the Honda and Domingo, both 83, were transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital with injuries. The man has since been released from care.
It is Kauai’s second traffic-related fatality this year.
