Vote for ‘A Better Kauai’
Walter Lewis in his fine biweekly column “A Better Kauai” factually makes the case for change — change from our “inefficient and misguided form of government” to a county manager system that is overwhelmingly used throughout our nation.
In fact, of our 50 states only Hawaii does not have a municipality using a county manager type of government.
Think about that. When a form of government is successfully being used nationally, why do we have a mayor and administration fighting tooth and nail to keep a system that has created so many problems under at least four administrations?
If a system is working well and the people are doing their jobs, there is no need for change. But the proliferation of so many problems both past and present screams for a change to a county manager.
Hopefully you citizens can see through a system where positions are filled by political appointees and not by people with experience and qualifications for the jobs. Maybe not all but way too many. Read carefully what Mr. Lewis has said and know that he has no dog in this fight except to see that all you citizens are getting the results that your taxes are paying for — good roads, fair taxes, and our problems solved, not ignored.
Tell our council to put this issue on the ballot so that you can vote for “A Better Kauai.”
