Yatsu Okimoto of Lihue, Kauai passed away on April 27, 2015, at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital at the age of 91. Born on July 1, 1923, in Moloaa, Kauai, she was the stronghold of her family, aloving wife and mother, a caring and supportive auntie and a respected employee and supervisor at Hilo Hattie’s.
Yatsu is preceded in death by her husband, Kiyoto Okimoto.
She is survived by her daughters, Arlene (Wayne) Yamada of Castro Valley, California, Joyce (Steve) Nishimura of Bainbridge Island, Washington; son, Wayne (Kathy) Okimoto of Reno, Nevada; brothers,Minoru Shimokawa, David Shimokawa, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Please join the family for a service to celebrate Yatsu’s life, to be held at the Niumalu Park Pavilion on July 30, 2015, at 11 a.m.

Calvin Saffery Sr.
Calvin Iokepa Saffery Sr., of Anahola passed away at home on July 14, 2015, at the age of 65. He was born in Hanalei, Kauai on May 4, 1950, and retired from the County of Kauai.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Irene “Jennie” Saffery; brother, Joe Mersberg and sister, Mapuana Harris.
Calvin is survived by his daughter, Valerie (Roderick) Saffery-Samio of Anahola; two sons, Calvin (Melveen) Saffery Jr. of Anahola and Robert Saffery of the Big Island; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Angeles of Waianae, Oahu, Nani Saffery of California, Vallendee “Toto” Wong of Hanalei; brother, Gordon “Kealoha” Saffery of Hanalei; sister-in-law, Kamala Mersberg of Anahola; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Waioli Huiia Church in Hanalei with visitation from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Saffery family with arrangements.
Trinidad Pascua
Trinidad Vea Rivera Pascua of Puhi passed away in Hale Kupuna Heritage Home on July 17, 2015, at the age of 92. She was born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines and was a dedicated homemaker.
Trinidad is preceded in death by her husband, Francisco R. Pascua; parents, Marciana Vea and Jose Rivera; siblings, Avelina Asuncion Galapon, Juan Asuncion, Mauricio Asuncion, Ambrocio Asuncion, allof the Philippines and cousin, Andrea Sagisi of Hawaii.
She is survived by her sister, Rosalia Vea (Tomas) Asuncion of the Philippines; niece, Sandra (Kendall Moser) Sagisi Moser; grandniece, Ashley (Michael) Munguia; cousin, Miguel (Carol) Asuncion; hanaifriend Ophelia Manibog; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at KauaiMemorial Gardens.

SFC Floyd Uehara
SFC Floyd Hitoshi Uehara passed away on July 16, 2015, in Amarillo, Texas at the age of 59. He was born in Mana, Hawaii, on March 8, 1956. SFC Floyd H. Uehara served with the U.S. Army from 1982to 2008. He was a Light Mechanic at Fort Shafter, Hawaii. SFC Uehara retired with twenty-five years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Masakichi Uehara and brother, Jason Masami Uehara.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Madelyne Inez Gonzalez-Uehara; son, Juan Martin Gonzalez; brother, Clifton Uehara and sister, Iris C. Uehara.
Friends may visit with the family for a memorial service to be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at The Diamond Head Cemetery in Honolulu, Hawaii.
George Mendoza
George P. Mendoza of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii, passed away on July 12, 2015, at the age of 92. He was born on April 23, 1923, in Azores. He was a truck driver for The Teamsters Union.
George was preceded in death by his son, Martin Mendoza.
He is survived by wife, Judy Mendoza of Lihue; daughters, Patricia Melton of Lihue, Maureen Ahl of California and son, Michael Mendoza, California, as well as four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Diane S. Shimizu of Koloa, passed away at Garden Isle Health Care on July 7, 2015, at the age of 60. Born on Aug. 20, 1954, in Lihue, she was a retired school teacher with Wilcox Elementary.
She is survived by her parents, Kazuki and Fuyuko Shimizu of Lihue; two brothers, Dennis (Lois) Shimizu of Pearl City and Leslie (Colleen) Shimizu of Honolulu; two sisters, Christine (Gary) Hashimoto ofLihue, and Jeanne Shimizu of Lihue and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.

Florenda Rabago Calidayan of Lihue, passed away at Garden Isle Health Care on July 12, 2015, at the age of 92. Born on Jan. 1, 1923, in Aparri, Cagayan, Philippines, she was a retired housekeeper withCoco Palms Resort and Hotel.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mariano Calidayan; parents, Ernesto Rabago and Rufina Reynol; brothers, Francisco Rualizo, and Roberto Rualizo; sister, Virginia Guillermo;and brother-in-law,Orlando Guillermo.
She is survived by her adopted son, Conrad (Emcy) Rualizo of Lihue; adopted daughters, Mariflor (Judy) Calidayan Bautista of Manila, Philippines and Marilou (Julie) Repaje of Ballesteros, Philippines;numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Vicente (Estrellita) Rualizo of Lihue; sisters, Adelina (Roberto) Romero of Aparri, Philippines, and Dominga (Dominador) Morano of Aparri,Philippines and sister-in-laws, Carlita Rualizo of the Philippines and Violeta Rualizo of the Philippines.
Friends may visit with the family at St. Michaels Church in Lihue on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015. Visitation is at 9 a.m. with services to begin at 10 a.m. and burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
