The Kauai Open, which was scheduled for today at the Island School gymnasium in Puhi, has been postponed.
The event, which is one of the legs of the Hawaii Triple Crown of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, was held off because the number of participants aren’t as high as expected, said promoter Romolo Barros. He said this is the first time he’s had to reschedule the Kauai event.
“There would not be enough people in the brackets,” Barros said Friday. “I talked to some of the guys that have school over there. They said it would be better to postpone and do it when everybody is back training and everything is back to normal.”
Last year the event had close to 150 people.
“This year, I was sure we would have close to 200 competitors, but we’re not close to last year,” Barros said, adding he’s hoping to have the competition sometime at the end of August.
Date and location is to be determined.
