Common sense necessary
Whoa, wait a minute. I need to reread that letter again. Visitor Leanne Roe from Washington injures herself while on vacation here. She states she was up in Kokee, wanted a better view of the canyon, fell and injured herself and says the state needs to take corrective action to provide “safe” access.
Um, wait a minute. She says she purposely went beyond the guardrail, the very guardrail erected to prevent anyone from going beyond the safe point in the first place. She snagged her own foot and fell down … trying to climb over. Let me say that again, according to her, they had to climb over the guardrail to get a view.
I’m sorry but I did roll my eyes and chuckle a bit. Yeah, all right, a lot. Now, Mrs Roe wants the state to do some corrective action so people like her can go beyond what was an established safety zone so they can see better? Wow, really? This is the same lack of common sense (or arrogance) that gets these tourists into big trouble ignoring a safety warning and needing to get rescued. I don’t wish injuries on anyone but in this case it was self-inflicted by ignoring a physical safety barrier. It’s all on her.
So please, Mrs Roe, next time you come to Kauai please pack an extra healthy dose of common sense. As Karl Maldin used to say, don’t leave home without it.
