Kudos to all those who came out to help clean the tree tunnel Saturday! Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. was on Cloud 9 as he walked the entire span of the tunnel, stopping to chat and thank the volunteers for all their work. Rep. Dee Morikawa (husband Ken was supervising the county crew whacking the albesia and other invasives near Koloa Town) said this was a nice change of pace as she worked alongside all those No Ka Oi volunteers.
Jackie Lott (she’ll be out volunteering at the Koloa Plantation Days, too) discovered the holes left by removed dead trees, and Mayor Carvalho said the arborists should be coming in to discuss a replanting plan. Mahalo to Frank and Abby Santos for the big boost in manpower help, and Aunty Stella Burgess must’ve been watching because she sent down just enough sprinkles to keep everyone nice and cool.
Kudos, too, to Chucky Boy Chock, Maryanne Kusaka, Jane Gray and all those Kauai Museum volunteers on doing such a bang-up job with the Portuguese Festival. Stan Yadao must have gotten the message because he knew how to cool down the oven which was stuck on 400 degrees.
