Dancers from Kauai’s Excel Dance Studio under the direction of owner Sherri Sanchez Holcomb earned their share of hardware, including first-place overall in hip hop as well as the Crystal Award at the Showstopper National Competition in Sundusky, Ohio.
Nearly 1,300 teams competed from around the country June 15-19.
When the dust settled on the five days of dance, Excel collected the second runner-up trophy as well as the Star Crystal Award, which is only presented to the Top 10 scoring teams.
Additional awards included a third place in Hip Hop for the youth team, a first-place overall and first place in hip hop for the junior team, and the Elite team earning the Crystal Award, the second runner-up trophy and the Star Crystal Award.
Sanchez Holcomb said the annual Excel Dance Camp will be held July 20-23 at the Kauai Veterans Center in Lihue.

Dancers in the Elite Team include Brylyn Aiwohi, Faith Burns, Emmsley Drake, Bryanna Grant-Yoshimura, Tytan Heresa, Kiana Okino, Kylene Rapacon, Charles Samuel III, Zhanelle Valenzuela and Brittney Yoshida.
Junior Team dancers include Verushqa Andrade, Grace Burns, Joy Burns, Ciena Caires, Sydney Cervantes, Kristin Chun, India Davies, Kaylynn Drake, Hailey Iha, Jordyn Kahananui, Blade Kanekuni, Kyla Koerte, Paul Ruff, Kiyannie Sablay, Shaylyn Silva and Ethan Whatmore.
The youth team includes Miranda Duarte, Tavehi Dubocage, Leijah Kaluahine, Liliwai Keahiolalo, Sailor Keahiolalo, Celia Ruff and Tiare Simao.
