Estrella Thronas
Estrella Paz Yadao Thronas passed away peacefully in her sleep at Garden Isle Healthcare on July 3, 2015, at the age of 88. She was born on Oct. 10, 1926, in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Emilio C. Yadao, and her mother, Anita Guerrero Yadao, sister, Priscilla Shishido and brother, Elias P. Yadao. She is survived by son, Stanley (Ginger); daughters, Kuulei and Nalani (Andrew) Finn; grandchildren Kahea, Kapono Thronas, Anna Thronas Loganbill, Zoe and Eli Finn; great-grandson, Felix Kanoa; brother, Lawrence Yadao; two sisters, Amapola Barte’, Marielani Coloretti; numerous Thronas and Yadao nieces and nephews.
Estie graduated from Kauai High School in 1944, worked as a disc jockey at KTOH, married Olaf E. Thronas in 1948. She lived a full life dedicating herself to raising her children and grandchildren, her church work, love of travel, reading, and was an avid MLB and UH baseball and volleyball fan. She received a lay minister certificate from the Bible Institute of Hawaii, led prayer groups, Bible studies and Sunday school classes as well as accepted invitations to speak at numerous church services and gatherings. A favorite motto of hers: “If you have a chance to do good, do it.”
Services to be held Monday, July 20, 2015, at the Hanapepe Hawaiian Congregational Church. Family 8:30 a.m., visitation 9 a.m., service 10 a.m. Honolulu services on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Wahiawa Christian Church family 8:30 a.m., visitation 9 a.m., service 10 a.m. Private burial. Family respectfully requests no floral arrangements, leis gratefully accepted. Donations may be made in remembrance of her good works to the church of your choice or the Bible Institute of Hawaii.

Joan Rosa
Joan Rosa, a resident of Anahola, Kauai, passed away on July 4, 2015. She was born in California on March 2, 1938. Joan was a U.S. Postal Worker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vada and Alva Bivens, and brother, Jack Bivens.
Joan is survived by her sons, Kimo (Lauren) Rosa, Keoni (Pam) Rosa and daughters, Amy Rosa; Malia (Tommy) Tokioka; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family is being assisted by Oahu Cemetery and Crematory.
Esther Allen
Esther “Jade” Hew Allen of Lihue passed away in Garden Isle Health Care on June 30, 2015, at the age of 88. She was born in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii on March 15, 1927, and retired from the federal government.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Foon and Sui Yin Hew, and 11 siblings.
She is survived by her husband, William Phillip Allen; two sons, Ross (Brenda Vidinha) Ikeda and Bill (Rebecca) Allen; two daughters, Kathy Allen-Hays and Laura Valhuerdi; 14 grandchildren, Lynn “Binky” (Jesse) Goo, Britney Ikeda, Daniel Ikeda, Sean Allen, Grant (Jackie) Sagum, Michael “Chad” (Angela) Hays, Monica Allen-Hays, Cory Allen-Hays, Cassandra Hays, Danielle Valhuerdi, Caitlin Valhuerdi, Colin Valhuerdi, Nicole Valhuerdi and Ryan Valhuerdi; five great- grandchildren, Jessie Goo, Jia Marie Goo, Aubrey Ikeda, Kaikea Saiki and Hudson, Hays; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Allen family with arrangements.
Lydia Pilien
Lydia Ponce Pilien, of Koloa, passed away on July 6, 2015, at her home in Koloa at the age 82. She was born on Sept. 28, 1932, in the Philippines and was a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Isidro Pilien and son, Raymund Pilien.
Lydia is survived by her daughter, Claire (John) Kodachi; son, Sidney Pilien and one grandchild.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Raphael’s Church Cemetery. A gathering to celebrate Lydia’s life will follow burial. Flowers and leis are gratefully accepted.
