LAWAI — Kauai’s Boy Scout Troop 83 will soon earn their badges.
The group is volunteering to clear out the trail at the Lawai International Center, and then lead a pilgrimage walk.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Troop 83 and volunteers will clear out guinea grass, vines and overgrowth along the trail which is home to 88 sacred shrines along the walkway. The work will clear the way for the “Pilgrimage of Compassion” set for July 26.
“The boys like to do it because it’s giving back to the community as a community service project,” said Scout Master Gilbert Cabot.
People can still volunteer and lunch will be provided.
Those who wish to participate are asked to bring hand gardening tools such as clippers, rakes, weeders and sickles in addition to weed whackers, hedge trimmers brush cutters and trucks for hauling.
