ANAHOLA – A 28-year-old Kilauea woman was in stable condition Wednesday after being struck while crossing Kuhio Highway in Anahola Tuesday night.
According to police, a Mazda sedan was heading south on Kuhio Highway when it struck the pedestrian while she was walking in a marked crosswalk about 9 p.m.
The 21-year-old female driver of the car, of Princeville, was treated and released from Mahelona Hospital with minor injuries. She was arrested for negligent injury and has since been released pending investigation.
At this time, police do not suspect speed or alcohol to be factors in the cause of the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
Kuhio Highway was closed in both directions near the Kukuihale Road intersection while police conducted their on-scene investigation. During the closure, northbound traffic was rerouted onto Ioane Road and southbound traffic was rerouted onto Kalalea Road.
The highway was reopened about 1:30 a.m.
