LIHUE — When Kauai’s Bethany Hamilton discovered she was pregnant with her son, she was thrilled. Now, the professional surfer is looking forward to the joys of motherhood as she and husband Adam Dirks welcome their baby boy, Tobias into the world.
“He is named after his great-grandfather Tobias meaning ‘the goodness of God,’” she posted on Facebook. “Adam and I are so in love with our little guy and are stoked to share life with him.”
Born on June 1, Tobias Dirks weighed 7.9 pounds and was 21-inches long. Hamilton also posted about the birth of her son on Twitter and has received numerous congratulations.
Bethany grew up on Kauai and is a professional surfer. Her life was the focus of the movie, “Soul Surfer,” that told the story of her faith and her return to surfing following a shark attack at Tunnels Beach when she was 13 years old.
