LIHUE — A 34-year-old man was arrested for manslaughter and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant in connection to the death of a Lawai man early Monday.
Evan Craft was the driver of the SUV that struck 37-year-old Michael Helppie of Lawai about 1:45 a.m. near the Kalapaki seawall along Nawiliwili Park, according to county spokeswoman Sarah Blane. Helppie was pronounced dead at the scene.
Craft has been released and an investigation continues, Blane said.
An autopsy is scheduled today.
