LIHUE — Volunteers are needed to help with the summer reading desk in the children’s area at Lihue Public Library.
The Summer Reading Program will run for seven weeks this year from Monday to Friday.
Volunteers should be able to commit to two- to four-hour shifts scheduled for the children’s SRP desk.
The task involves sitting at the desk or keeping an eye on the desk; helping children sign up for the program; helping them record the books they have read on their reading logs; and distributing reading incentive prizes. Despite serving between 300-400 kids, this task is usually fairly slow-paced so a single volunteer may be able to do some reading, handiwork or chatting with patrons while also being in charge of the Children’s SRP desk.
