KEKAHA — A single car crash Friday night on Kekaha Road just past the Manu Road junction resulted in serious injuries to the driver and his passenger.
The driver, a 33-year-old Eleele man, and his passenger, a 24-year-old Kekaha woman, were placed on backboards and C-spine precautions were applied at the scene. They were then taken to Wilcox Hospital via ambulance.
Currently, the driver is in critical condition, while the passenger is in stable condition.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:19 p.m. Friday when the Eleele man reportedly lost control of his vehicle and veered onto the westbound shoulder where he struck a utility pole. The vehicle then flipped several times before coming to a stop, and the driver was ejected.
Police officers, firefighters, medics and KIUC personnel responded to the crash.
A portion of Kekaha Road, between the Manu Road and Aukuu Road junctions, was closed for approximately four hours while police conducted their investigation and KIUC personnel replaced the damaged pole.
