LIHUE — The Hawaii Department of Transportation, Highways Division, advises Kauai motorists that construction for the Nawiliwili Road Improvements project will begin Tuesday.
Multiple lanes will be closed on Nawiliwili Road between Kaumualii Highway and Kanani Street today through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Throughout construction, Nawiliwili Road will be narrowed and will allow one lane of traffic in both directions.
The Nawiliwili Road Improvements project will replace the existing asphalt concrete pavement with more durable Portland Cement Concrete. Other improvements will include construction of new curbs, sidewalks, gutters and drainage, along with improved road signage, pavement markings and landscaping.
The estimated project cost is $10.25 million, 80 percent of which is federally funded. Roadwork is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.
