KAPAA — Both northbound lanes of Kuhio Highway in Kapaa were closed for about 45 minutes Tuesday night following a two-car crash that left three people injured.
According to a preliminary investigation, a Chevy sedan was turning left from the southbound lane of Kuhio Highway onto Aleka Loop, fronting Longs Drugs about 8 p.m.
The sedan struck a northbound Toyota pickup in the outer lane, causing the truck to hit a stop sign and fence, before coming to a stop in a vacant lot along the northbound shoulder of the highway.
The 17-year-old male driver of the Toyota truck suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
The female driver and passenger in the Chevy sedan, both of Kapaa, were treated on scene.
They were then transported to Wilcox hospital for evaluation and released.
Police diverted northbound traffic onto Aleka Loop until the roadway was cleared.
