I read with interest the controversy around the way our County Council operates the county.

Obviously, the right manger, experience etc. is critical.
It appears our present system needs to go, with way too many voices arguing and debating. Talk to anyone who has lived under a manager system. It is the most effective way to go. Please! Let the people decide at the ballot.

National Day of Prayer warrants tolerance for all
When my neighbor prays for the well-being of her grandchildren I feel certain she is asking for them what I may ask for my grandchildren.
Does she pray like I pray? Do we worship the same God? I don’t know and frankly that question does not occur to me. She wants for her family what I want for mine. Her thoughts and words may speak in a different language or to a different faith but I don’t care.
There are two prayer gatherings at our county building on the National Day of Prayer. Early in the day, with relatively poor attendance, the Interfaith Roundtable of Kauai presents a diversity of Island faiths speaking out for the community. Later comes the big meeting by Kauai Island Ministries where Christians and Jews are invited since they pray to the same God. No Buddhists, no Zoroasters, no Islamists, no Hindus and etc., etc., etc. No, no, no. You do not worship the same God. Stay home!
When I am present in a room where someone offers a prayer of thanks for the food we are to receive I welcome the prayer. Is my God so short-sighted that she does not recognize that the words of the prayer gives thanks to whom we give supplication and respect. I am appreciative of their words. How they are communicated warrants respect and tolerance.
The National Day of Prayer is a day that warrants respect and tolerance to all. The person standing by my side may have a different color, may speak in another language, may eat different foods, but above all, they are my brother or sister.
I believe I am a tolerant person. Tolerance is a quality worth sharing. Exercise it on this day of prayer.
