Q: What is the status of the bridge repairs at Opaekaa, Kapahi and Puuopae? How much money has been spent on these repairs thus far (including studies)?
A: All three of these projects are on the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) which provides federal highway funding in addition to our county match. Kapahi Bridge construction is anticipated to go out to bid by the end of Fiscal Year 2015. Within the STIP plan, Puuopae construction funding is slated for Fiscal Year 2017 and Opaekaa construction funding is slated for Fiscal Year 2018. County expenditures thus far for planning, environmental and design: for Opaekaa $73,000; Kapahi, $75,000; and Puuopae, $65,000. Please note these projects get funded via 20 percent county and 80 percent federal.
Olohena Road
Q: What is the status of road repairs on Olohena, heading up toward the middle school?
A: Publics Works has awarded the “Resurfacing of Collector Roads at Various Locations Federal Aid Project” to Grace Pacific. This project will address the portion of Olohena Road heading up toward the middle school. A blessing to kick the project off was held on March 19. Funding for this project is provided by the Federal Highway Administration and the County of Kauai.

A: There were 89,050 registered vehicles as of the calendar year ending Dec. 31, 2014. The current county weight tax is $0.02/lb. per passenger vehicle. The county collected $4,228,735 for FY 2013 and $4,341,217 for FY 2014.

Q: What is the current monthly fee for homeowners for sewer? How much has the county collected in the past two fiscal years?
A: Current sewer fees for a single family residential property is $60.09 per unit per month. The multifamily residential property sewer fee is $50.03 per unit per month.
Lihi Park
