POIPU — Cheyanne Tannery stopped the clock on a 17.578-second go during the 3D barrel racing Sunday during the Kauai All Girl Rodeo Association event at the CJM Country Stables.
Tannery’s go was the fastest time in the 38-rider field and earned her first place in the 1st D of the event, unofficially.
“That run was nearly a second faster than the closest rider,” said Wendy Tannery, Cheyanne’s mother, who came up with a no time in the event. “My horse, when ridden out of rodeo, is faster, but today she’s not running well.”
During the second KAGRA rodeo, Cheyanne Tannery pulled off a 17.955 go in the barrel racing to earn top honors. That go, coupled with a first place in the 3D pole bending event (21.09) earned her a rare All Around Cowgirl honor.
“It’s not every day that Cheyanne can win All Around Cowgirl,” Wendy Tannery said. “She really is thrilled about that. Her horse also ran under 16 seconds during the Waimea Town rodeo.”
The KAGRA rodeo has participants working through six events, including 3D barrel racing, the 3D pole bending, goat tying, dally team roping, steer undecorating and breakaway roping.
Sunday’s event marked the midway point for the six-rodeo calendar.
Full results will appear in a future issue of TGI.
