Kudos to Keith Kitamura of the Kapaa High School Peer Mediation on a successful inaugural Peer Mediation Conference on Friday at the Kauai Veterans Center.
Was nice to see Dr. Monty Downs helping out, and Nadine Nakamura was there to check it out. Theresa Koki is looking ahead to Denim Day (domestic violence and sexual abuse was a topic) next Wednesday, and Mary Ann Ornellas was busy building for her Teens Night Out coming up May 15 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Kukui Grove Center.
Keith said the Kapaa Peer Mediation (who is the girl who transferred to Waimea High School but still is a mediator?) program started seven years ago with the Pinwheels for Peace and has grown to include murals (on the school campus) and a variety of service projects.
Christine Harjo said since joining the Peer Mediation program, she can be herself and not shy and withdrawn.
Lauren Lagana (she’s a Grace Stokes fan) said it’s good to see people walking around school treating others how you would want to be treated.
