PUHI — Eric Hansen, the coordinator of GoFarm Hawaii and the Sustainability Club at the Kauai Community College, is organizing a variety of activities for a hands-on Earth Day on Wednesday.
“We decided that, for this year, spending grass-roots, quality time together taking care of our beloved campus would be the most meaningful way to honor the spirit of Earth Day,” said Helen Cox, the Kauai Community College chancellor. “The theme of helping hands coming together to volunteer in an area which needs help is the perfect fit for us right now. Together, we can expand our support for a sustainable living community.”
Starting at noon and running until 1:15 p.m., the KCC ohana will join hands at the campus farm to malama the aina, or help the land at the campus.
People are invited to join them as Hansen leads the participants in a variety of activities which include planting perennial nitrogen-fixing ground covers, making cuttings of existing ground cover plants, and helping to spruce up the area.
The Sustainability Club will provide a water refilling station and snacks.
