Chemicals a threat to nene
Have you taken a walk or biked along the Prince Golf Course path, recently?
There are wide swaths of dead grass killed by chemicals, as engendered nene graze and drink from the pond. As a golfer (hacker) myself, I like nice fairways but this action is completely unnecessary. The new owners are killing off all existing turf to install “better” grass, not for essential maintenance. The chemicals being used can potentially harm nene and will find their way, along with eroded soil, to nearshore sensitive reefs. Studies also clearly show that many herbicides and pesticides used on golf courses have health risks to workers. The owners should do the right things: Stop this current massive spraying, keep the existing turf and come up with more thoughtful, low-impact chemical approaches, like those developed by Cornell University (http://www.hort.cornell.edu/turf/pubs/manual.html). To do otherwise is simply irresponsible.

SHAFTA will mean loss of jobs
Sen. Ron Wyden from Oregon is co-sponsoring Trade Promotion Authority for the Trans-Pacific Partnership also known as SHAFTA (Southern Hemisphere Asian Free Trade Agreement).
This will be coming up for a vote soon. To pass TPA, the senate will require 60 votes. If TPA passes, then the vote for SHAFTA can be passed by a simple majority vote.
If you recall how Ross Perot’s prediction that passing NAFTA would result in a “giant sucking sound” came true, you should be very concerned that SHAFTA might pass.
This agreement will result in the loss of American jobs and allow foreign corporations (just a corporation, not a government!) to ignore American laws. This agreement is a huge sellout to the super-rich. You need to call your congressional representatives today, tomorrow and everyday and tell them, that if SHAFTA passes you will not support them for re-election.
For those of you who are concerned about the loss of American sovereignty to the United Nations, please understand that SHAFTA, will be much, much worse.
