LIHUE — If you’re considering donating to the Kauai Independent Food Bank, this is the time.
Kelvin Moniz, KIFB executive director, received word Monday night that effective today and running through April 30, the close of the KIFB Spring Healthy Food and Fund Drive, the Hale Uluwehi Kauai Fund at the Hawaii Community Foundation has issued a challenge to the island.
“For every donation of $150 or more to the Kauai Independent Food Bank, the donor will provide a two-for-one match,” Moniz said. “This means for every $150 donated, the donor will add $300, effectively turning the contribution into a donation worth $450.”
Moniz said the larger the donation, the bigger the impact.
“Our keiki through kupuna thank you in advance,” Moniz said. “This two-for-one program is a huge boost for the KIFB Keiki Cafe, backpack programs, and the kupuna programs.”
Some businesses are stepping up to help.
The Specific, a chiropractic center Kauai in Lihue, gave gift cards to those who dropped off canned goods for the food bank in March.
Contributions can be dropped off at the KIFB facility in Nawiliwili, or mailed to Kauai Independent Food Bank, 3285 Waapa Road, Suite A, Lihue, HI 96766.
Contributions may also be done online at www.kauaifoodbank.org and clicking the “donate online – click here” button.
The KIFB Spring Food and Fund drive has a goal of 40,000 pounds and $40,000 continues through April 30.
