Daniel Gregory Newbold
Daniel Gregory Newbold passed suddenly on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at his home in Kapahi, Kauai. He was 52 years old.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Daniel was the youngest of seven children. Deciding to leave Canada in 1965, the Newbold family immigrated to the United States and settled in beautiful Santa Cruz, California. They then moved South of Santa Cruz where Daniel attended Rio Del Mar Elementary, Aptos Junior High, and Aptos High School, graduating with the class of 1979. A true seeker of adventures, Daniel formed a love with the ocean at a young age. He was an avid long boarder, diver, and fisherman.
Daniel moved to Hawaii in 1989, settling on the Island of Kauai and began working as a commercial painter. His work then brought him to the Island of Oahu where he was a project manager for a local construction company. Daniel was involved in many honorary projects in his line of work such as restoration efforts at Hickam Field and Pearl Harbor. His roots were set in Hawaii, but his heart never left Santa Cruz where he visited family and friends frequently. He had quite the following in Santa Cruz and was always showered in love by all who knew him.
Daniel was full of life; full of love. His spirit, followed by his smile were both radiant beyond words. A simple man with more funny stories than fingers and toes, Daniel always valued a good laugh. To him, the reciprocation of love was all that mattered. He will be missed deeply for he was loved more than he could ever imagine.
Daniel is survived by four brothers, Thomas Newbold of Santa Cruz, Sean Newbold of Kapaa, Kauai, Patrick Newbold of San Luis Obispo, Ford Newbold of Queensland, Australia; sisters, Gabrielle Catherine Newbold of Aptos and Toni Seiler of Scotts Valley; nieces, Lauren Rose Newbold of Kapaa, Kauai, Crystal Lauren Newbold of Santa Cruz, Lindsey Seiler of Scotts Valley, Bridget Johnson of Santa Cruz, Lesley Montes of Bakersfield and a grandnephew, Michael Montes of Bakersfield and sister-in-law Christina B. Newbold.
Daniel’s memorial mass will take place on April 18, 2015, 9 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapaa, followed by a paddle out at Wailua Beach. A celebration of Daniel’s life will take place at Daniel’s house in Kapahi with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Catherine’s Church on Daniel’s behalf.
“That we once enjoyed and deeply loved, we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes part of us.”
