Kudos to Sherri Sanchez Holcomb, Bill Countryman, Gerald Nakashima and all those Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club workers on hosting a great tribute to Kalakaua Friday night!
Bill and Gerald were standing by with chairs in the event more guests arrived than they originally set up for, and Susan Painiu Floyd flew in from the Big Island to perform with Na Lei Kupua O Kauai.
Kudos to Kumu Hula Puna Kalama Dawson, Pualiiliimaikalani Rossi, Puamohala Kaholokula, Hokoua Kaohelaulii, and Ehulani Kanahele for letting their halau perform a tribute to Kalakaua.
Dickie Chang dropped in for a quick look before heading off to emcee the Luau Kalamaku at the Kilohana (guess what? Russ and Paige Talvi were shopping at the Kauai Community Market!), and Tommy Tokioka even got Sherri to perform a hula for the guests.
Karen Joy, dancing for 16 years with Na Lei Kupua O Kauai, said she was honored to have been invited to pay tribute to Kalakaua. She said she also loves the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival.
