LIHUE — Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization, in collaboration with the Kauai Fire Department, Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife, and Kauai Civil Defense Agency, will hold community input meetings to develop a Kauai Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
Meetings will be held at the following locations and times:
• Monday, 6-7 p.m. – Kilauea Elementary School, 2440 Kolo Road.
• Tuesday, 6-7 p.m. – Waimea Canyon Middle School, 9555 Huakai Road.
• Wednesday, 6-7 p.m. – Wilcox Elementary School, 4319 Hardy Street in Lihue.
The CWPP process relies on community input for preparing and protecting fire-prone areas from wildfires. The CWPP meetings will identify and prioritize projects to reduce the threat of wildfire.
“This is an important opportunity for communities to have a say over the priorities in the plan and to seek funds for the wildfire mitigation projects that residents themselves identify,” said Patrick Porter, Kauai forest manager with DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife. “Invest your time to protect your investments.”
