LIHUE — The inchies on Ladye Martin’s quilt drew admiring looks Tuesday as she checked in her entry with Jeni Hardy of the Kauai Quilt Show at the Kukui Grove Center.
“This is in the artwork category,” Martin said. “I don’t know what to call it, but it’s made up of inchies, which are individual quilts one inch by one inch.”
Doors to the Kauai Quilt Show open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Kauai Society of Artists gallery location and will be open through March 29.
“This is the first time we’ve moved the show to Lihue, a more central area, due to popular request,” Hardy said. “We’re also holding it for 12 days.”
The public is invited to view the more than 60 quilts vying for honors in four categories, including Hand Work sponsored by Kapaia Stitchery, Best Use of Machine Embroidery sponsored by Singer Discount Fabric, Best Machine Quilting sponsored by Vicky’s Fabrics, and a Best of Show, which is determined by viewers.
Show hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with hours extended to 8 p.m. on Fridays. A quilters reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the KSA gallery.
