LIHUE — A benefit dinner and concert for crew members who call Kauai their home and who have participated in the Malama Honua Voyage of Hokulea is scheduled for March 29 at Gaylord’s Restaurant at Kilohana.
There will be traditional Hawaiian oli and dance, Hawaiian music and dinner.
This event is being organized by haumana Jayna Marie Shaffer, who will be participating in the upcoming Merrie Monarch Festival Miss Aloha Hula Competition on April 9. Her oli and kahiko will honor the Kauai navigators and crew who have had the opportunity to participate in the Malama Honua Voyage.
“As the Hokulea travels around the world sharing its message of malama, this event will be an opportunity for Kauai to extend our mahalo to the fine men and women who are the keepers of the ancient art of Polynesian voyaging,” a press release explained.
Admission is a donation of $75 per person or an exclusive VIP table of six for $600. Reservations are required.
