LIHUE — Lifeguards recovered the body of a man off Salt Pond Beach in Eleele early Tuesday afternoon.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, has no known address but was known to camp in the nearby area, according to a Kauai County press release. His identity has not yet been released.
A snorkeler notified lifeguards at Salt Pond Beach tower of an apparent body located in roughly 10 feet of water about 1 p.m. The body was about 75 yards off shore. A lifeguard recovered the body and responding medics confirmed the man had no vital signs and was presumed dead at the scene. He was then transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
Police are investigating. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
