LIHUE — “I scored the first goal,” Duke DePasquale said proudly.
DePasquale was joined by Thomas Hamai and Sergio De La Mora to lead the Hanalei FC BU10 to a 3-0 win over the Northshore FC BU10 Saturday in the season opening round of games. The final goal came from De La Mora’s foot on a penalty kick.
“You play hard and you get rewarded,” said Hanalei coach Nicolas Prisselkoff-Lindman. “Now, we’ll practice hard and do it again.”
The Under 10 game was just one of many which peppered the North Vidinha fields, hosted by the Kauai Soccer Association.
“We have approximately 700 kids registered for the spring season,” said Kevin Gusman, a KSA administrator. “The kids are playing on 54 teams in the spring season which will end with the championships on May 19, weather permitting.”
Jasmine Semblante netted two goals and Dylan Calderon added one to lead the Makani GU12 to a 3-1 edge over the Eastside Pride GU12, who got its score from Ashley Crawford.
“This KSA program has seen some tremendous growth,” Gusman said. “It’s also good to see some of the high school coaches like Sean Magoun and Colby Ayonon coming out to coach teams as well.”
Games are played on Saturdays at the North Vidinha fields starting at 8 a.m.
