LIHUE — March 31 is the deadline for applications for scholarships provided by the Kauai County Farm Bureau and the Hawaii Tropical Flower and Foliage Association, Kauai Chapter.
Joni Ito, KCFB Scholarship Committee chair, said encouraging the study of agriculture is part of KCFB’s role.
“As interest in local agriculture is generated, it is our hope that more students will pursue degrees in the field of agriculture,” Ito said in a KCFB release.
The HTFFA, Kauai Chapter, offers a scholarship to support students, especially those with an interest in the floral and nursery industry. The scholarship is funded by sales at the 2014 Flower Show.
The KCFB scholarship program has supported farmers on Kauai for more than 20 years.
Other recipients include Kauai High School Future Farmers of America instructor Herbert Keamoai, veterinarian Fran Azeka, and Lyndsey Haraguchi-Nakayama, the educational coordinator at the Hoopulapula Haraguchi Rice Mill in Hanalei.
