LIHUE — Dr. Addison Bulosan of The Specific Chiropractic Center in Lihue recently returned from a four-day trip to the Philippines where he helped provide service to more than 500 patients.
“The Philippine Islands have suffered several weather disasters, and health care is one of their needs we were able to assist in,” Bulosan said in an email.
“Many Filipinos immigrated from their homeland to Hawaii to build a better life. Many families in Hawaii send whatever they can to help their family members enjoy the same opportunities we have,” he added.
Working with three other doctors from the Mainland and local Philippines officials, Addison traveled to Cebu, Philippines, to provide specialized chiropractic care to the Filipino community at the Gullas Hospital.
“This is the first service trip established by The Specific Chiropractic Center in hopes of helping the growing need for international healthcare collaboration,” Bulosan said.
Bulosan received support of the Kauai Filipino Community Council, the Laoag Saranay Association, the Visayan Club, and numerous donors.
“Many local families here on Kauai hold a special place in their hearts for the Philippines, myself included,” Bulosan said. “To be able to return to where my heritage is from and start establishing an international healthcare support system between Kauai and the Philippines is truly humbling.”
