LIHUE — Kapaa Middle School eighth-grader Leila Nelson was crowned champion of the 2015 Kauai District Spelling Bee at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School.
Students in grades four to eight represented Kauai at the Jan. 15 event.
For winning, Nelson received a trophy and will travel to Oahu to participate in the 2015 Hawaii State Spelling Bee on March 20.
