LIHUE — An elusive Hanalei man who caused a trespassing stir with North Shore residents after walking out on a mental health treatment center has been apprehended on the other side of Kauai.
Richard Isaac Leibman, 35, was arrested Sunday in the Poipu area, according to a press release from Kauai Police Department. He had been considered a fugitive since a $10,000 bench warrant was issued for his failing to appear at a status hearing in Kauai District Court on Dec. 4, 2014.
Acting on a tip, police officers located Leibman near the parking lot of Poipu Sands condominium around 6 p.m. He attempted to run from police and kicked an officer multiple times while trying to scale a wall. Despite his efforts, Leibman was detained and remains in police custody.
He is charged with resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and for questioning in a separate first-degree burglary case.
Leibman is expected to be charged and arraigned in District Court this week.
