LIHUE — Five new positions in the Kauai Fire Department’s Ocean Safety Bureau allowed for several promotions within the department.
Roy Yamagata is now the South District captain. Norman Hunter is the East District captain, and James Ingham is now captain for the North District.
Randy Ortiz will serve as captain of the newly created position of training and prevention. His primary duties include developing and coordinating training programs for the department, as well as coordinating community ocean safety education programs.
Most of the current OSB captains were previously supervisors. This allowed for four promotions.
Anthony Kaipo Jaquias was promoted to South District supervisor. Kaleo Lopez is now East District supervisor. The North District supervisor is Chad Listman, and the Training Position has been filled by former WSO III Gerald Hurd.
The bureau has also created a new position of program support technician to assist with administrative functions.
