HANAPEPE — The Kapaa High School girls team earned the No. 3 seed for the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Hawaii High School Athletic Association Girls Soccer State Championships, Division II, on Wednesday.
The team clinched the Kauai Interscholastic Federation division title during a playoff game Tuesday.
The tournament runs from Feb. 18-21 on Oahu.
Kauai High School, who also earned a trip to states, was not seeded, meaning they will have an extra round to get though compared to seeded teams if they want to win the tournament.
Kapaa opens play Feb. 19 in the quarterfinals, facing the winner of the Kamehameha-Big Island and Waipahu match. The top seed in Kapaa’s bracket is No. 2 seed, Mid Pacific Institute.
Kauai High, the KIF runner-up, will open against Nanakuli High School on at 5 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex. If Kauai gets past the opening round, they could face top-seeded Hawaii Preparatory Academy, the Division II defending champions.
Waialua High School earned the No. 4 seed. Others include Nanakuli, St. Anthony, PAC-5, Kalani, Honokaa, Kamehameha Schools-Big Island, and Waipahu high schools.
