Jim Eggers of Spokane, Washington, said he’s been to a lot of basketball games since his son’s days of playing, but has never seen anything like the six players on the court Tuesday night.
Jim heard the game was supposed to be a good one and thought he would experience a game at the Kauai High School gym.
His wife Marianne Mishima, a news anchor in Spokane, was not able to make the game, or we might have had something on the air in Washington.
Kauai Athletic Director Dino Pabre (he had his red shirt on Tuesday) was busy in the parking lot after the cold bug whacked his normal monitor.
He got help from Gordon Bonilla, and based on the near-capacity crowd at the Raiderdome, they had their hands full.
Coach Paul Barba had his Waimea hoopsters out in force, taking up a whole section of the bleachers, and Kauai JV coach Clarence Sales was trying to figure out how to get to Kalaheo for his daughter’s community youth league game.
Coach Luther Yam said his teams played on one Saturday, so he got the bye to be able to enjoy the game.
