The crash occurred about 8 a.m. when a westbound Ford Ranger truck crossed the center line.
The driver of an oncoming Chevy Spark sedan swerved to avoid the pickup, but the truck broadsided the passenger side of the Chevy and caused it to roll onto its side.
The passenger in the sedan, a 28-year-old female visitor, was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters before medics transported her to Wilcox Memorial Hospital. She was then medivaced to Queen’s Hospital in Honolulu in critical condition.
The 44-year-old male driver of the truck, a Kalaheo man, was also transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
The male driver of the sedan, 26, did not report any injuries.
Both vehicles sustained major damage and were towed from the scene.
Kaumualii Highway was reopened about 9:10 a.m.
