LIHUE — The East Kauai Lions Club is wrapping up its current Lions for Sight campaign of collecting used eyeglasses.
“We’re going to be cleaning, inspecting and getting the collection ready for shipping Thursday,” said East Kauai Lion Roy Nishida. “This shipment is going to the Philippines, where they are still recovering from the impact of the typhoon.”
The East Kauai Lions were manning a table collecting used and recyclable eyeglasses outside of the Longs Drugstore at the Kukui Grove Center Saturday.
“We have collection boxes at several of the optical places like Longs, the Dr. Lee eye center, Crane Eye Care, and Dr. Jeri Loo’s office,” said Kelvin Moniz. “All of these, as well as the glasses collected during the Lions for Sight collection days, will be cleaned and shipped.”
Moniz said in addition to recycling eyeglasses, the Lions have also been busy with the Sight is Beautiful poster contest at the elementary schools.
