The Dream Team, both its A and B girls squads, ran into stiff competition Tuesday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center during the county’s Division I girls youth basketball program.
Coached by Luther Yam, the Dream Team A lost 38-18 to Team Central, coached by Clarence Sales, despite the the play of Alexie Ann Yam, who dropped seven points. Kiani Pia Salvador and Trachelle Iwamoto each added four points.
Jasmyne Ballesteros topped the Team Central win with an evening-high 16 points. Bailey Perreira dropped 10 points and Amalya Sales finished with six points.
In the second Division I, or players in the fourth through sixth grades, the Kauai Ballers, coached by Ron Miura, beat Dream Team B, 25-4.
Hailey Overmyer and Dina Hayes sparked the Kauai Ballers’ victory with 10 points each. Tatum Luczon had three of the four points notched by the Dream Team.
Kay Serapio scored 10 points and Braeln Cayaban added three points to lead Kaulupono to its 19-6 showing over Westside in the nightcap.
Momi Martins had four of Westside’s points in the effort.
Following three Division I boys games tonight, the county’s youth league hosts five boys matches at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
