LIHUE — Jett Smith might not be able to drive yet, but has his own ideas of what he wants out of a car.
“This is a futuristic car,” said Amanda Smith, Jett’s mother, while helping the 2013 Kauai New Year Baby with adding headlights to the developing cars. “See? The car has wheels and now he’s adding flames and dust. This car is going to the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest.”
Jan. 31 is the deadline for submitting entries to the 2015 Toyota Dream Car Art Contest, either postmarked, or dropped off at a Toyota dealership.
“The entries have been pretty slow this year,” said Dan Nanbu, general sales manager for Kauai Toyota. “If you remember, last year, one of our winning entries, Emma Thain’s ‘Construct-O-Mobile,’ earned a trip to Japan.”
Entrants can create original, hand-drawn illustrations of “Your Dream Car.” Finalists will receive an iPad Mini, or cash prize and will be submitted to the WorldCompetition, where they could be selected to receive an all-expenses paid trip to Japan this summer to attend the final awards ceremony.
Last year, there were more than 500 entries. Entry forms and rules are available at www.ToyotaHawaii.com or at any Toyota dealership.
